The car also has deluxe versions that include power steering and air conditioning.
The Nano will be made under Bharat 3 emission standards, and will meet all emission standards. The Tata Group expects to produce 2,50,000 numbers each year.
Tata announced various specifics about the car, including the mileage, which he says is 20km to the litre.
Other Nano specifics that he mentioned: 33BHP, 624 cc, four-door, five seater.
Tata says the Nano is about 10 per cent smaller bumper-to-bumper, when compared to the Maruti 800, and about 21 per cent larger in the interiors.
Tata even took a few digs at the launch, saying the new car may lead to Pachauri having 'nightmares', and that Sunita Narain could now 'sleep at night'.
